Reception (Miss Wicklen)

Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely Easter break.

 

Our topic this half-term is 'Once Upon a Time'.

 

We will be reading a range of traditional tales, including Goldilocks, Jack and the Bean stalk and The Three Little Pigs.

 

These are the areas of learning we are focusing on;

 

Expressive Arts and Design

Represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories. 

Explore and use media and materials. 

Safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools, techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

 

Communication and Language

Children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners' needs. they develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.

 

PSED - Making Relationships

Children play co-operatively, taking turns with others.

 

Past and Present

Children know some similarities and differences between things in the past and now, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class. 

 

The Natural World

Know some similarities and differences between the natural world around them and contrasting environments, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class.

Understand some important processes and changes in the natural world around them, including the seasons and changing state of matter.

Comprehension

Children use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems during role-play.

 

Writing

Write recognisable letters most of which are correctly formed.

Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter or letters.

Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others.

 

Reading

 

Say a sound for each letter in the alphabet and recognise some digraphs. 

Read words consistent with their phonic knowledge by sound-blending.

 

Number

Compare weight, length and capacity.

 

Have a deep understanding of number to 20; including the composition of each number.
